BIKE THE CARRIAGE ROADS
This page describes carriage road rides made possible by Bus 6, the Northeast Harbor bus. In addition, the Bicycle Express provides access to the Carriage Roads at Eagle Lake.
The Northeast Harbor bus links Bar Harbor and Northeast Harbor with carriage roads at Brown Mountain Gate House. Here are three trips that each use a portion of the "Around Mountain" carriage road loop. Take along a carriage road map.
BROWN MOUNTAIN TO EAGLE LAKE VIA AUNT BETTY POND
This trip is 7.4 miles if you take the lower road to Aunt Betty Pond. Ride Bus 6 to Brown Mountain Gate House.
At Eagle Lake, return to Bar Harbor on the Bicycle Express, or to Northeast Harbor on Bus 6.
BROWN MOUNTAIN TO JORDAN POND
The most direct route to Jordan Pond House is only three miles. Travel to Brown Mountain Gate House on Bus 6.
Because bike racks on buses at Jordan Pond House are often full, you should plan to bike back to Brown Mountain
and return to Bar Harbor or Northeast Harbor on Bus 6.
BROWN MOUNTAIN TO EAGLE LAKE VIA THE NORTH RIDGE OF SARGENT MOUNTAIN
From Brown Mountain Gate House, follow the upper clockwise Around Mountain route. This trip is about eight miles
and includes a long, steep climb around Sargent Mountain. At Eagle Lake, return to Bar Harbor on the Bicycle Express,
or to Northeast Harbor on Bus 6.
