PLAN 8: NOVA SCOTIA FERRY
International ferry service is available between Bar Harbor and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. The Cat is operated by Bay Ferries. This highspeed catamaran is 300 feet long and has room for 900 passengers. It cuts a six-hour journey on the old-fashioned car ferry down to 2 hours and 45 minutes.

During July and August the Cat operates Monday through Wednesday. A Thursday morning trip from Bar Harbor is added in the fall. Check with Bay Ferries for schedule times.

Advance reservations are recommended. You can call Bay Ferries at 1-888-249-7245.

LOCAL BUS CONNECTIONS IN BAR HARBOR
The Island Explorer provides connecting bus service from the Cat to hotels (Eden Street) and private campgrounds (Campground). The Eden Street bus also provides a link to downtown Bar Harbor.

BUS SERVICE YARMOUTH TO HALIFAX
Trius Tours, Ltd. operates bus service between Yarmouth and Halifax. Overnight stays are required in Halifax. We tried calling Trius Tours at 1-800-903-5664, but couldn't make a connection from Maine's 207 area code. Last year, we found a web site for Shelbourne, Nova Scotia that included a bus schedule, but we couldn't confirm this information. The Shelburne site showed buses departing from the Irving Mainway in Yarmouth Monday through Saturday at 6:25 a.m. and Sundays at 11:30 a.m. The site said that buses depart Halifax seven days a week at 6:25 p.m. It said that the bus trip takes approximately 4 hours each way.
