HIKES FOR THE SERIOUS HIKER Hike across the Island's mountains without turning back to your car. There are a number of great expeditions made possible by the Island Explorer. BIKE THE CARRIAGE ROADS Island Explorer buses provide access to the carriage road system at Eagle Lake, Brown Mountain, Jordan Pond, Bubble Pond, and the Hulls Cove Visitor Center. All buses are equipped with bicycle racks. BIKE SEGMENTS OF THE PARK LOOP ROAD The Island Explorer allows you to bike portions of the 20-mile Park Loop Road. The bus also helps you avoid the narrow two-way portion between Jordan Pond and the Cadillac Mountain Raod. RIDE THE BUS TO ISLAND BEACHES The Island Explorer provides access to ocean swimming at Sand Beach and fresh water swimming at Echo Lake. CADILLAC MOUNTAIN Two private bus companies offer narrated tours that include stops at the summit of Cadillac Mountain. Island Explorer buses do not operate on the Cadillac Mountain road, but you can walk from the Village Green transit center to reach either tour. DAY CRUISE TO NOVA SCOTIA Ride the Campground bus or the Eden Street bus to reach the Bay Ferries terminal. The CAT leaves Bar Harbor at 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and returns at 2:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. BOAT AND BUS TOURS A variety of boat cruises are available in Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, and Southwest Harbor. You can also use the Island Explorer to reach the Swans Island Ferry or the Cranberry Isles Mail Boat. Two companies based in Bar Harbor offer narrated trolley and bus tours. ISLAND MUSEUMS Use the Island Explorer to reach a variety of island museums. |
