This page describes carriage road rides made possible by the new Brown Mountain bus . Other examples include using the Jordan Pond bus for trips between Jordan Pond and Bubble Pond or between Jordan Pond and Eagle Lake.

The Brown Mountain bus links Bar Harbor and Northeast Harbor with carriage roads at Brown Mountain and Eagle Lake. Here are three possible bike routes that each use a portion of the "Around Mountain" carriage road loop. Take along a carriage road map.

BROWN MOUNTAIN TO JORDAN POND
The most direct route is 3 miles long with only modest grades. Travel to Brown Mountain on Bus 6 and return to Bar Harbor or Northeast Harbor on Bus 5.

BROWN MOUNTAIN TO BUBBLE POND OVER THE NORTH RIDGE OF SARGENT MOUNTAIN
This trip is about 8 miles long and includes a long, steep climb around Sargent Mountain. Travel to Brown Mountain on Bus 6 and return to Bar Harbor or Northeast Harbor on Bus 5.

BROWN MOUNTAIN TO EAGLE LAKE VIA AUNT BETTY POND
This trip is 7.4 miles long if you take the lower road to Aunt Betty Pond. There are several hills but grades are moderate. Travel to Brown Mountain on Bus 6 and return to Bar Harbor or Northeast Harbor on Bus 6.

To avoid overcrowding on the Jordan Pond bus in the afternnon, consider traveling into the Park by bus and returning to town on your bicycle. Follow the carriage road from Eagle Lake to Duck Brook Bridge. Turn left onto the paved Duck Brook Road, and then turn left onto West Street Extionsion. It is an easy downhill ride all the way from Duck Brook Bridge to town.
